Providing Heat Dissipation (Thermography Camera)#

You must provide sufficient heat dissipation to maintain a stable camera temperature, which is essential for reliable temperature measurement.

General Guidelines#

Since each installation is unique, Basler only provides the following general guidelines:

  • You should monitor the internal temperature of the camera using the Device Temperature parameter to make sure that the temperature at the different locations stays within safe limits during normal operation:
    • Sensor board: 25–55 °C (77–131 °F)
  • Provide sufficient heat dissipation. Appropriate measures include the following:
    • Mounting the camera on a substantial, thermally conductive component
    • Using a fan to provide an air flow over the camera
    • Attach appropriate cooling elements to the camera. Basler offers a suitable heat sink that can be purchased separately.
  • Monitor the temperature of the camera using the camera-specific temperature measurement point.
  • A camera will deliver better images at lower temperatures.

  • The camera will gradually become warmer during the first hour of operation. After one hour, the housing temperature should have stabilized and should no longer increase.
  • To ensure good image quality, Basler advises against operating the camera at elevated temperatures.

Over Temperature Protection#

The camera is equipped with temperature sensors that measure the temperature of the sensor board.

If temperatures at which safe operation of the camera can't be guaranteed anymore are reached, image acquisition will be stopped automatically. If this happens, try to reduce the temperature by applying a cooling element to the camera.

Temperatures at which the image acquisition will be switched off:

  • Sensor board: 58 °C (136,4 °F)

Restarting Image Acquisition After Automatic Acquisition Stop#

Power-cycle the camera to restart image acquisition.
